Information about the Vienna International Airport

Situated 18km on southeast of Vienna, the Vienna international Airport is the biggest airport in Austria. In 1938, it was built originally as a military airport. The airport was expended in 1959 with one runway. The second runway was built only in 1972. This airport can accommodate an Airbus A340 as well as a Boeing747. Vienna Airport serves also as the main hub of the Austrian Airlines as well as other budget airlines, Sky Europe and Niki. One tragic event that happened in Vienna Airport was the 1985 attack by the Palestinian Terrorists.

Developments in the Vienna International Airport

The Vienna International Airport is on steady growth in terms of passengers and freight. Due to this, several developments were done. A 109 meters high Tower was built to allow a free view of the airport's entirety. With its night laser show, for sure passengers would even be more amaze. Another development would be the new terminal which is currently being built. Construction began in 2006 and is expected to last till 2008. Other significant developments currently on planning stage include a third Runway and enlargement of the railway station.
