Hawelka

As a Viennese institution, this likeable downtown café has been owned and run by Leopold and Josefine Hawelka since 1939. Indeed, despite being forced to close during World War II (when Leopold was sent to fight on the Russian front), the café was spared from major bomb damage and re- opened in 1945. Today, the period façade is still intact, while the couple (who are now both in their 80s) continue to be involved in the daily running of the business.
