The public theater "Volkstheater" was founded in the year of 1889 by the citizens of Vienna. Among the founders was the dramatist Anzengruber and the furniture manufacturer Thonet. The public theater represents a complement to the court theater "Hofburgtheater" which was built in the style of historism.
