Vienna shopping

Vienna shopping is not as exhaustive as shopping and other cities in terms of selection, however there are some shopping attractions that draw lots of visitors. The Naschmarkt flea markets is open year-round every Saturday, and houses vendors that sell just about anything imaginable. If you are a fan of World War I history then this flea market will likely provide you with hours worth of enjoyment. Vienna also has several Christmas markets that pop up around the holiday season. Shopping is decent at the Christmas markets, but it is not as spectacular as the Christmas markets and some other European cities. The real draw to Vienna Christmas markets is the drinking and socializing.

For complete information where to go please look in our special section about the shopping in Vienna. You could also buy a shopping guide from our Vienna webshop.

Car parking is available in Vienna, though it is not recommended in the Central city area where parking is quite restrictive and very expensive. Similarly it is possible to car hire in Vienna however much like the parking situation traffic can become very congested on the numerous one way narrow streets. Luckily for travelers and locals, Vienna has a fantastic public transportation system that combines buses, subway rails, and trains. Users of the public transportation system have the option of buying passes either on individual trip basis, or in day long or weeklong increments.

Vienna hotel - Vienna restaurant

Vienna has a large selection of hotels available, but finding a Vienna hotel at a bargain can be somewhat tricky. The difference in prices between a youth hostel and a low range hotel is very small, and both are still more expensive than can be found in other cities of the same size. There are quite a few upscale options, including some international hotel chains; none of which are bargain so plan your trip ahead and try to get some sort of room deal. Vienna restaurants feature an interesting mix of local foods like sausages, and foods of other ethnic origins specifically a lot of Turkish food. When staying in Vienna and the only must try food item is actually coffee which is somewhat of a Viennese obsession.
